Model L Weld Sight Glass
Assembly Instructions
The unit is shipped with its cap screws intentionally loose. Before welding, remove the cap, lens, seal and cushion gaskets. Refit only the cap while welding so it can help limit distortion of the body, use a suitable welding procedure, and allow the body to cool before complete reassembly.
After the unit has been heated and pressurised several times, recheck the cap-screw tightness. If the lens is removed after service, replace the seal before returning the sight glass to operation.
- Clean the inside of the weld body before reassembly.
- Seat one cushion gasket in the body.
- Adjust the seal so it sits evenly around the lens, then place the lens-and-seal assembly into the body.
- Place the remaining cushion gasket above the lens.
- Position the retainer cap and align its bolt holes with the body.
- Install all cap screws and bring them up finger-tight.
- Finish tightening the cap screws gradually in a cross-pattern so the seal is compressed evenly. About 20 ft-lb is normally sufficient; if leakage occurs, tighten uniformly only as needed to stop it.
